Future Requirements

What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

In my next job, I would like to gain as much hands-on experience as possible working with quality horses in a professional environment. I am particularly keen to continue developing my practical skills and learning from experienced staff, especially in areas such as horse management, schooling, and maintaining horses’ fitness and well-being. Overall, I’m looking for a role where I can contribute to the yard while continuing to learn and develop my skills within the industry

Do you need accommodation?

Not necessarily. If the yard is within a reasonable travelling distance from home, I would not require accommodation. However, I would be open to it if the role required it.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No

Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non-yard-based job, please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have ridden and grown up around horses from a young age. I have owned and cared for my own horse for the past 10 years and thoroughly enjoy riding and spending time with him, always striving to improve both my riding and my horse’s fitness. I have also worked part-time within a professional yard environment and am confident managing the daily care of fit, quality horses, including competition and school horses.

As a rider, I am comfortable riding to a standard above BHS Stage 2/3. I am happy schooling both in company and independently, and I understand and can perform lateral movements. I enjoy hacking fit horses, including in open spaces such as parkland, and I am confident jumping while continuing to improve through regular tuition. I take pride in riding sympathetically, maintaining the horse’s fitness, balance, and correct schooling.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc.

I am competent in all aspects of yard work, including mucking out, tack cleaning, clipping, turnout, and maintaining high standards of horse welfare and yard presentation. I am confident lunging and riding, and I am comfortable working both independently and as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the yard. I also have previous experience handling mares and foals, which has helped me develop patience, confidence, and a good understanding of safe horse handling.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

What I enjoy most about working with horses is the relationship you build with them over time. Each horse has its own personality, and I find it really rewarding learning how they think and respond so you can care for them in the best possible way. I enjoy the process of developing trust and seeing a horse become more relaxed, confident, and willing through consistent handling and good management. I also really enjoy the routine and variety that comes with working on a yard. No two days are exactly the same, and it’s satisfying knowing that the work you do each day—such as feeding, grooming, and general care—directly contributes to the horses’ health and well-being.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I’m always looking to improve my knowledge and practical skills within the equine industry. Through my studies and yard experience, I already have a good foundation, but I’m keen to build on this further by learning from experienced professionals and gaining more hands-on experience. I also like to keep improving my efficiency and confidence when working in busy yard environments. While I work well under pressure, I’m always trying to become faster and more organized while still maintaining a high standard of care for the horses.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me above other candidates because I combine practical equine experience with a strong commitment to horse welfare and continuous learning. I am reliable and confident working in professional yard environments, understanding the high standards required for horse care, including feeding, turnout, grooming, and daily management. I work efficiently, remain calm under pressure, and take pride in maintaining a tidy, organized yard.
