Experience with Horses
September 2020 – December 2025. Successful completion of my apprenticeship – Level 2 groom
● Bhs stage 1 (Ride and Care)
● Bhs Stage 2 (care and Lunge) partial completion working towards my ride to complete, (took a small step back after a fall).
● Assist in running the yard, assigning jobs to staff and overseeing these duties are completed to a high standard.
● Risk assessment including stables, Fields and movement of the horses.
● With knowledge of all 35 horses and over 20 being trained from my initial start date I have extensive knowledge of each individual horse and assist with the farriers, Vets etc.
● Overseeing the turnout of the horses and their individual care plans.
● Individual dressage and competition preparation
I worked at a riding school for 5 years and achieved my BHS Stage 2 Care+Lunge and my Level 2 Apprenticeship in Equine Groom.
I’m helping out a lady with her 4 horses, 2 that are on light work whilst slowly moving towards breaking them in and the other 2 being in full ridden work. I’ve been working with the horses for nearly 2 years now and she’s so happy with how fit and healthy her horses are. I join her to shows and make sure everything runs nice and smoothly for her and she allows me to compete them too.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I’m a very hard worker and can work on my own or part of a team! I can clip, plait, getting horses ready for shows, handling very young horses.
When working at the riding school I rode a variety of horses from ones being broken in to slightly more difficult horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love building a relationship with the horses and seeing how they grow.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’ve never handled a stallion but have dealt with geldings that have been castrated late.
When I’m jumping I’m working on better position and my confidence as I had a accident in 2022 which knocked my confidence a lot but I’ve been jumping 50-60cm since I’ve been helping out the lady with the 4 horses.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m very hardworking and positive person and always making sure I’m putting my all into my work. Always putting horse care first.
