Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have evented up to BE100 and have showjumped up to Newcomers level on my own horses and client horses. As well as this, I have backed many young horses and re-trained ex-racehorses both my own and for clients. I have been an exercise rider at a racing stables and for a showjumping stables, therefore I am experienced in handling all levels of horses. I have also been a groom for a VIP client where I was responsible for looking after their children around horses and setting up activities for them to partake in. I am able to complete any stable duty to a high quality as well as being able to clip, plait and turnout horses to a high quality.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc.
I am extremely good at working with young, green and nervous horses. I am intune with the horse’s emotions and am able to read their body language well. I am very patient, resilient and I will never give up, always ending the session on a good note. I have an eye for detail where no cut, scrape or shy will go unnoticed. I am a skilled rider with many years experience with all levels of horse, however I am always looking to receive constructive feedback on how I can improve.
I also have experience with working with children and have received excellent feedback from parents. I have been an after-school teacher for children from nursery to year 9. As previously mentioned, I have worked with VIP client’s children where I created fun, interactive activities for them to learn about the upkeep of horses and other animals in a safe, fun manner.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the trust that I can gain from horses just by listening to them and ensuring their needs are met. I also enjoy the physical side of the job, as (due to being a competitive rider myself) I am always looking to increase my fitness levels.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I like to get on with the task in hand and not stop until it is complete. I like to problem solve to the best of my ability before asking for help and have been told previously that I should interact with other employees more. I will take this advice however, interaction will be short until the job is done.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am always looking to learn and grow my knowledge base as well as being eager to complete tasks to the highest level. I bring an understanding and level of care of all animals that others do not. I believe in the horse-first mindset and I will do everything in my power to show that I stand by that.
