Future Requirements

What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

Always looking to further my knowledge and experience in the equine industry and make more experience and connections upon graduating from Hartpury University.

• Do you need accommodation?

Depends on the location. Happy to commute within 45 minutes of Basingstoke.

Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No.

Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I leave university at the end of next month (some availability before then).

Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

13-17 April only.

Experience with Horses

I have a variety of relevant experience working with horses from many backgrounds – from riding school ponies to Grand Prix dressage horses and horses with pain-related behavioural issues. As part of my course and relevant work experience, I have developed and fine-tuned my equine handling and management skills, with a particular focus on skills relevant to rehabilitation – such as static exercises, lunging and receiving extensive training in long-reining. Because of this, I am very confident on the ground, whether that is completing yard work to a high standard to trotting-up and ground-schooling fresh performance horses. I am also very hard-working on the yard, understanding the importance of yard cleanliness and teamwork.

Key Skills

I am happy to work alone when I know the job but also work well as part of a team. I have particular skills in groundwork as I have received extensive training in this field. I have ridden as part of my work previously, with coaches noting my quiet and gentle riding style.

Along with my equine experience I have related hospitality and communication skills that make me great with clients. I started my working life as a waitress in hospitality and most recently have been working at the stables of a 5-star hotel, meaning I am experienced at being a good representation of my workplace when interacting with clients in a friendly but professional way – even when navigating conflicts.

Strengths and Weaknesses

What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Due to my degree, I have a particular passion for equine biomechanics and groundwork. I love seeing the improvement in individual horses as they gain strength, confidence or comfort.

Is there anything you’d like to improve?

While I have extensive and varied working experience, I would like to gain official practical qualifications, such as doing my BHS.

Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am incredibly hard-working with a great work ethic. I am confident in handling horses of all backgrounds and willing to learn and improve any further skills needed for particular jobs – as I am a keen and quick learner who is passionate on becoming the best I can be in the equine industry.
