Future Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

In my next job I would like to gain experience on a professional and competitive yard. I’m eager to learn in depth how to produce the best work in all aspects of care for the horses, at home and away at shows.  I’d also like to do my HGV driving if it was a desired qualification. If given the option I’d also like to develop my riding skills!

• Do you need accommodation?

I would need accommodation if it is away from my current address but I am happy to relocate.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No, I have a pet cat that I’d like to bring but she has no special requirements.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

Not outside of work.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No

Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I started riding when I was around 7 years old at a local equestrian centre and instantly fell in love. I’d often stay at the yard after lessons and help where I could with tacking horses up, grooming, feeding etc. I got my first loaned horse at 13 where I’d look after two large horses on my own. It was general duties such as mucking out, poo picking fields, feeding, turning out and bringing in and riding. I’d have frequent lessons also at an equestrian centre to improve my riding as well. When I was 15 I then had a break from horses to start working, but came back to it in early 2025 with another loan horse. Here I’ve developed my skills and bettered my quality of general equine care. I’ve continued to improve my riding, being more conscious of how to get the horse working in an optimal way to improve their quality and fitness. I’ve taken her cross country and to stay away camps which has inspired me to look for a line of work with horses. Unfortunately, she’s now being sold so I am eager to still keep working and being around horses.

I now work at a small yard locally, part time alongside my other job, doing general tasks of checking the horses over, feeding, poo picking, turning in and out etc. There is a mix of types of horses from riding school horses to youngsters so I adapt to suit them. I really enjoy the variety of work with the different horses but also the routine of the day.

I’m looking to do my BHS stages hopefully in the very near future as well.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am particularly good at working with others, I’m never afraid to seek clarification and ask questions to ensure the job is done correctly. I’m confident conversing with a range of people and always make sure to be friendly.  I’m also happy to work alone as well, I always take initiative to keep on top of jobs when I have free time and am good at time keeping and organisation to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy the diversity of the horses that you get, no two are the same and it means you have to change and adapt yourself, in your care or riding, to help them. Also seeing that the care I give really makes a difference to the horses and the yard itself. I also enjoy that sometimes not everything is easy with them, I find it makes the good parts more rewarding.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I’d like to improve on my clipping and plaiting, I’ve tried both but would like to get them neater and more efficient. I’ve been watching videos and practising where I can to try and improve these already.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

They should consider me because I am a hard worker, no job too big. I am a confident person, will always try my hardest at everything I do and always eager to learn and take criticism on my work. I truly love horses and the industry and want to be the best I can for the horses and the yard itself. I’m a fast learner and learn best with hands on experience.
