Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have been riding for 9 years and I have had my gelding for 5 years, however, I have also worked at different yards in Surrey and around university, Hartpury, as well as polo yards.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am understanding and good at cooperating with different people. After different situations with my horse, I adapted a very patient and determined attitude to everything I do. I can work in groups or by myself. I am experienced in all yard jobs as well as having quite a lot of experience in terms of suspensory injuries due to my geldings history.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love being able to work outdoors and be around the horses as well as getting to know different horses and their owners to be able to help whenever I can.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to improve my plaiting, especially manes, as well as cutting manes and clipping.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I have experience with suspensory injuries, as well as having learnt to trust myself in situations with vets, saddlers and people with different opinions. I kept my gelding at a yard a few years ago having recently just bought him and he was my first pony, I did not have much ownership experience so I was trusting my yard manager who was very stuck in her ways and thought she knew what was best for my boy, however, She unknowingly unfed him consistently until I called it out as he got so skinny after I had flagged it up so many times before I trusting my own judgement, moved him to a different yard, and as he was also injured at the time, I focused on special supplements, therapies and lots of rehab to get him back to normal after having a difficult year of not knowing if he would be the same. I few moths later he was healthy and happy and back to jumping which he loves! this has taught me resilience, patience, adaptations and most of all to trust myself.
