Future Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I am looking for a job where I can get opportunities to ride and lunge a range of horses to support my training for BHS Stage 3 ride and lunge, and beyond. I enjoy working with young horses, and would really appreciate any opportunities to ride or groom at competitions.

I am interested in apprenticeships, or positions on a larger yard where I can gain a range of experiences to support my progression.

• Do you need accommodation?

Yes, unless it is within an hour of Sheffield. Otherwise I am very happy to live in, and have done this before.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

Ideally, I would like to bring my 16.2hh thoroughbred gelding, who is well mannered and fits in easily within a herd. I am open to considering positions where this is not possible though, but it would dependent on nearby livery options.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I would need to give notice at my current job.

Ideally, I would appreciate being able to continue coaching for my pony club one evening a week.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

I am away at pony club camp including in a coaching capacity from 19th-28th July

Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have experience working efficiently and to high standards on a competition yard. This involves all yard duties, including mucking out, skipping out, feeding, haynets, tack cleaning, grooming, tacking up, washing off etc. I also hack fit competition horses. I have also done night checks alone.

I have worked as a paid coach and can confidently deliver progressive, well-planned group or private lessons. I can asses horse and rider combinations for suitability, and monitor horses behaviour to ensure high standards of welfare are maintained within a riding school. As part of my role as coach, I have some experience with assisting with supervision of volunteers and junior staff.

I am a confident rider holding BHS Stage 2 complete horsemanship, and actively training for my Stage 3. I can school, hack and jump horses independently, and have a sound knowledge of the scales of training and fitness programs. I have experience riding a range of horses and ponies 12.2hh-17.1hh for private owners, including young horses and exracehorses. In several cases I have been responsible for assessing their progression and developing their exercise programmes. I am confident lunging, and have experience using lunging, groundwork and longreining for rehabilitation and development.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I communicate well with others and take responsibility to show initiative when working in a team.

I am confident with equine first aid, including bandaging, poulticing and tubbing. I have a good attention to detail, and can spot early signs of illness and injury. I can keep calm in an emergency.

I can handle a variety of horses confidently and safely.

I am a quiet and calm rider.

I can turnout to a good standard, including plaiting.

I have a democratic coaching style, communicate well with riders, and plan lesson to create structured, safe progression.

I am excellent at taking feedback and reflecting on my own work, and show a genuine commitment to my development.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy building relationships with horses and riders and helping them succeed. I especially enjoy seeing the progression of young horse.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like gain more specialist experience in commercial settings involving the training of young horses, or in a rehabilitation setting.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am conscientious and dedicated to the horses in my care. I will constantly reflect and seek opportunities to improve myself for them. I am eager to work hard, and actively enjoy opportunities to learn, which is evidenced by my progression through the BHS exam structure as a teenager, and the many experiences and CPD opportunities I have seeked out.
