Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have been riding since I was 10 years old, I have competed ponies at BS until buying my first horse, a 3 year old warmblood who I have produced myself, he is now 7 and competing.  I have jumped up to 1.20 (not competitively) competed up to 1.05.
I have worked on a professional livery/showjumping yard (freelance) where I still work which involves the every day care of all horses, mucking out, putting horses in and out, handling young horses, foals and stallions.  I have also groomed at shows so I have lots of varied experience which I am ready to take further.

Key Skills

I am particularly good at riding young horses, handling young horses etc.  I can recognise quite easily when a horse is ‘off’ from the ground and whilst riding.  I can lunge and handle most horses.  Clipping and plaiting I need to work on as I have not had too much opportunity to do this but I can do it.  I can work riders in at shows or work in myself.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

My strength is being able to get a tune out of most horses as well as being calm and level headed.  I love all aspects of working with horses, obviously riding but equally the day to day care.  I’m also lucky to have handled young horses and newborn foals.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my clipping and plaiting skills and my knowledge of breeding.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am almost 18, I am a person who does not moan and I have a can do approach and if I can’t I will find a solution.  I can also drive with my own car.  I am a fun, positive person to be around.
