I am currently completing my BHS Stage 1 training on Friday afternoons, which includes volunteering at an RDA center. I am also currently employed on Sundays but can provide a one-month notice period to become fully available for weekend work if required.

None. I have no upcoming holidays or travel plans.

Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I am a hardworking and reliable individual with a strong foundation in horse care, currently working towards my BHS Stage 1. I have gained significant practical experience through my weekly training and my volunteer work at an RDA riding school.
My experience and skills include:

Yard Maintenance: Confident with all daily duties including mucking out, skipping out, bedding down, and keeping the yard and hay/feed rooms tidy.

Horse Handling: Experienced in leading a variety of horses and ponies safely, including handling for RDA lessons and turning out/bringing in.

Daily Care: Proficient in grooming, picking out feet, rugging, and preparing haynets and feeds according to specific instructions.

Tack & Equipment: Knowledgeable in cleaning tack and basic equipment maintenance to ensure everything is kept in professional order.

I am a dedicated team player who enjoys working outdoors and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of horse welfare. I am eager to bring my skills to a professional yard where I can contribute to the team while continuing my professional development.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

My greatest strengths are my reliability and my commitment to high yard standards. Through my training and volunteer work, I have developed:

A Proactive Work Ethic: I am quick to spot what needs doing and take pride in keeping the yard and stables spotless.

Safe & Calm Handling: My time with the RDA has made me a patient, safety-conscious handler with a calm approach to every horse.

Professionalism: I follow instructions precisely and am very disciplined with timings and routines.

Team Support: I am a motivated team player who is equally happy working under my own initiative to get the job done.

Attention to Detail: Whether it’s grooming or yard maintenance, I always aim for a professional finish.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I most enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes from maintaining a smooth, efficient routine and seeing the horses thrive under my care. I genuinely enjoy the physical nature of yard work and the satisfaction of looking back at a clean, well-organised yard at the end of the day. In particular, I take great pride in mucking out and taking the time to create a perfectly organised, clean bed each morning; I find it very rewarding to see the stables looking professional and the horses comfortable. Building a bond of trust with different horses through daily handling and grooming is incredibly fulfilling, and I love knowing that my attention to detail directly contributes to their health and well-being. For me, there is nothing better than knowing the horses are happy, settled, and cared for to the highest standard.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I am always looking to improve my efficiency and expand my technical knowledge. I am currently working towards my BHS Stage 1 to formalise my skills, and I am keen to continue progressing through the BHS stages. Specifically, I would like to gain more experience in advanced turnout techniques, such as professional clipping and plaiting, and learn more about specialised horse fitness and nutrition within a professional yard environment.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me because I combine a strong, proven work ethic with a genuine commitment to professional development. Having stayed in my current role for over two years, I have demonstrated the reliability and loyalty that are essential in a yard environment. My ongoing BHS Stage 1 training and RDA volunteering ensure that I work to high safety and welfare standards, while my proactive nature means I take pride in the small details such as maintaining a spotless yard and creating perfectly organised stables. I am a dedicated team player who is ready to work hard, listen well, and contribute to the smooth running of the yard from day one.
