Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have had horses all my life. My grandfather used to break and train ponies, so I grew up around horses from a very young age. I started out in a riding school taking weekly lessons before moving on to hunting. I also spent time working in Coolmore, which gave me valuable hands on experience in a professional environment.
I still break a few horses occasionally, but my main interest now is in the breeding side of the industry. I have experience handling mares, foals, and young stock, and I am keen to continue learning and developing my knowledge further.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
Handling mares, foals, and youngstock.Experience with breeding and general yard duties.Able to turn horses out to a high standard.Confident working independently and as part of a team.Experience handling and riding young horses
I can also clip and plait to a decent standard, although I would not consider myself a professional in those areas.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I genuinely enjoy being around horses and working with them every day. I find them rewarding animals to work with, and I enjoy the variety that comes with the job.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to improve my knowledge of conformation and develop a better eye for identifying both good and bad points in horses. I am also interested in learning more about sales preparation and presentation.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I have a strong background with horses from both personal and professional experience. I am hardworking, reliable, and always willing to learn and improve my skills. I have hands on experience with breeding stock and young horses, and I am comfortable working in busy yard environments.
