Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have freelanced in 4 countries over the last 5 years and have experience in polo, driving, dressage, eventing, showjumping, racing, and breeding. I have competed BD, BE, and BS but mainly BD. I was trained up to Grand Prix in Spain and enjoyed training the movements up the levels and decided to specialise in backing and training so competing took a back step (I have points up to Advanced), although this means I can compete young horses in Bronze and Silver at the lower levels. I have extensive experience in liberty training which is a useful tool in training correct movements without harsh training aids. Furthermore, I can turnout to a high standard and have groomed and ridden for myself with up to 4 horses at one show.
I am insured on my own 3.5t horse box and would be happy to take my HGV.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am confident working on my own and have ran my own 18 horse yard myself for the last 2 years. I equally enjoy working as a part of a team and have a great work ethic and sense of humour to go along with it. I can take charge of a team or happily work under a manager.
I own my own stallions so I understand their handling requirements and needs. Furthermore, I am very confident with horses of all levels and abilities and enjoy backing and retraining. I specialise in “problem” horses and will ride anything as long as any issues under saddle have been explored by the appropriate professionals prior.
I prioritise welfare above all else and always train and care for any animal to place their needs above all.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the process and progression of young horses above all.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’d like to improv en my turnout for showing horses as I have minimal experience in this discipline.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I can confidently say I have a great work ethic and will put my all into every job no matter what. To add, I am extremely laid back and work great under pressure and I take on board any constructive criticism that can help me improve in any way. I am all round a very happy and friendly person making me very unproblematic, with extensive experience behind me.
