Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I currently work at my family business – North Cray and Sidcup Riding School as a groom. We are a livery yard and a teaching riding school. In my role here, I complete yard duties comprising: mucking out, bedding, watering, feeding, turning out and grooming. I have recently been teaching and coaching some of our livery clients. In addition to this, I have worked within an administrative capacity, completing booking requests for our clients, creating social media posts and organising rotas and cover when required.
I have been working and riding horses from a young age. I currently own a 6 year old who I have brought on in the last 2 years. I compete him within the area of dressage. I am at an affiliated level, competing in a wide range of competitions around the country, most recently I competed at the Petplan Summer Championships.
Since leaving school, I have completed and achieved a distinction in a stage 3 Horse Management diploma. This course further developed my understanding of the care, health and management of horses. In addition to my studies, I have worked with a variety of equine workers to develop my knowledge; these include a dressage coach, a riding school instructor, a vet, a farrier and a physiotherapist.
I am extremely driven to continue to develop my knowledge and expertise within the equine world, particularly dressage. I am committed to developing my skills and knowledge.
I am a patient, calm and hardworking person. I am able to work under stress and time pressure. I am able to communicate effectively and work under instruction as well as using my own initiative.
I understand the benefits of working as a team; I have been able to demonstrate effective teamwork through a number of different scenarios, from my work within my family business, my group presentations and projects whilst studying my GCSE Business course, through to working alongside a number of equine professionals. I know that effective teamwork leads to an efficient way of working and builds both trust and opportunities for growth and development. I believe that I have contributed to effective working teams.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am able to work both in a team and alone, I learn quickly and am motivated to do the very best. I’m able to handle horses confidently, I know how to prepare for shows – plaiting, clipping, ensuring tack is clean. I have handled lots of different horses in my current role. I have also ridden a range of different horses.
