Horse Yard Assistants Required

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work closely with our rescue horses, mainly Shires and Clydesdales.
Based near Nairn in the Scottish Highlands, we offer a peaceful rural setting with open countryside and provides the opportunity to become a team member, contributing to our horses care as part of a dedicated rescue organisation.
Successful candidates will be able to expand their knowledge of working in horse care management in the charity sector in this much sought after role.
On site accommodation is available enabling this role to be open nationally.
Main duties:
- Feeding, grooming and caring for our horses
- Administering medication as required
- Assisting with veterinary care
- General field management and maintenance
- Maintaining a clean, safe and professional yard environment
- Following all health and safety procedures
- Reporting all welfare concerns or operational issues to management
- Carrying out general yard duties as required to maintain the smooth running of the rescue
Person requirements:
- Self-starter with the ability to take responsibility for daily yard duties
- Commitment to excellent horse welfare
- Previous yard experience (1 year minimum preferred)
- Full driving license
- Excellent team player supporting other colleagues as and when required
- Ability to communicate with clarity on both basic and more complex issues
- Reliability, dedication and resilience with an excellent work ethic
- Flexible approach due to the nature of animal care
Accommodation:
Self-contained unit with two separate bedrooms and shared kitchen, living room and bathroom. Would suit a couple or two independent applicants. Hot water and electricity are included, and applicants will only be responsible for their own food and day-to-day personal living expenses.
Hours:
Applicants will be expected to work four consecutive days in a week.
Daily schedule:
- 8:00 – 16:00 main yard duties, horse care and general farm responsibilities. Break times are included
- 17:30 – 18:00 bringing in horses and evening feeds
- 21:00 – final feed for older horses and final checks on all horses
