Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I currently ride on a weekly basis and have gained valuable experience working at a stud yard. My responsibilities included the daily care of mares, foals and young horses, ensuring they were fed, watered, mucked out, turned in and out, rugged appropriately and groomed to a high standard. I was trusted to independently manage the care of up to 20 horses, demonstrating my reliability, organisation and confidence working on my own.

I also assisted with daily veterinary visits by preparing and handling horses safely, monitoring their wellbeing and following instructions carefully. In addition to general yard duties, I have exercised young horses, hunting horses and eventers, adapting my riding to suit each horse’s needs. I am passionate about horse welfare, enjoy working as part of a team and am always keen to learn and develop my skills further.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

  • Confident handling mares, foals, young horses and competition horses and Stallions.
  • Trusted to independently manage the daily care of up to 20 horses.
  • Weekly riding experience.
  • Experience exercising young horses, hunting horses and eventers.
  • Assisting with daily veterinary visits and handling horses safely.
  • Mucking out, feeding, turnout, rug changes, grooming and general yard maintenance.
  • Calm, patient and observant around horses.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, hardworking and organised.
  • High standards of horse welfare and stable management.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

What I enjoy most is earning a horse’s trust. Every horse has a different personality, and I find it incredibly rewarding to build that relationship while providing the best possible care. I also love the sense of achievement at the end of a busy day, knowing I’ve helped keep the horses healthy, happy and ready to perform.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I’d like to build on my existing experience by learning more advanced grooming techniques, competition preparation and further developing my riding. I’m always open to feedback and enjoy learning new skills that will help me progress within the equine industry.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a genuine passion for horses. Despite being early in my career, I have already been trusted with significant responsibility, including independently managing the daily care of 20 horses at a stud yard. I have experience with mares, foals, young horses and competition horses, and I’m confident assisting with vet visits and exercising a variety of horses. I am dependable, eager to learn and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure horses receive the highest standard of care.
