Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have had 19 years of experience with over 20 of my own horse that have lived both on yards and at home. I have spent the last 5-6 months, or since February riding and looking after a small group of 3 warmbloods in active work and competitions on a local livery yard.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

My key skills are definitely my riding, grooming and stable management. I can confidently ride a wide range of horses both young and old, big and small and in between both in a school and out on hacks. I can confidently school both an experienced and an inexperienced horse, and can jump up to 90cm including gridwork. I am not phased by spooky or green horses. I have ridden at a few local competitions and shows. I have not yet competed in show jumping but have done a few showing classes and spent 2 years as a show groom for someone i no longer have contact with.
i take pride in the turnout of all the horses i work with. I am capable and confident to plait (both sewn and banded), clip, bath, and groom all different types of horses.
i also take pride in my stable management skills, especially keeping stables clean and tidy. When i muck out i always make sure all the stables are properly cleaned, all the dirty bedding is taken out and new bedding is put back in. All my bankings are always neat and flat topped (but tall) and the fronts of the beds are swept into a nice straight line at the front. All spilt feed, hay and dirt is swept up and put on the muck heap.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I love watching young horses develop and grow into well mannered and kind adult horses. I love being part of the process of training and backing young horses and setting them up for success.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to mostly improve my riding ability and my general knowledge of horses and stable management in a professional environment.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me because i guarantee results. All horses will always be looked after to the best of my ability, everything will be organised, tack will be cleaned and oiled regularly to ensure longevity of the leather, and I will always try my best to take onboard what i am being asked of. I am keen to learn and grow and am willing to be part of a team of kind and patient people and horses.
