Future Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to gain my practical skills such as my lunging  etc to develop it further as I can become tense which the horse can pick up on. I need to have more confidence in myself that I can do the work. I would like to be able to be more confident in riding youngsters who are novice or green which is something that I would like to gain further. I would like to be able to ride a variety of different horses that are a bit more challenging but are safe as well. I mostly would like to do equine work only that has riding involved as well.

Experience with Horses

I have got my BHS Stage 1 and have got a level 3 extended diploma in equine. I am able to groom to a high standard, muck out, turn out horses from/in field, can put a rug on/off horses, able to handle different temperaments of horses, able to put horses into the walker, can do different types of bedding, have experience in exercising horses since my time at college such as I can lunge, long rein and put different gadgets on the horse, can tack up the horse on my own and can ride to a good standard where I can walk, trot, canter with or without stirrups but need to gain more confidence in cantering with no stirrups as can get nervous but once I can do it I am fine also able to jump small but willing to jump higher to gain more confidence and can do a range of school movements.

I am able to work in a team and on my own. I am to plait to a good standard, have ridden youngsters that are green or novice such as in my riding place I have ridden a youngster that has just started her career in riding, have ridden an ex 5 star showjumper, have handled  stallions a little bit at college not so much, can exercise the horse, able to ride to a high standard, following instructions, take initiative in doing equine tasks, able to instruct others on the yard since my time at college we had to supervise students in telling them what jobs need to be completed and able to coach since it was a unit at college where we took turns in coaching each other but don’t have a lot of experience in it.

 

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I like to create a strong a connection with them, showing care towards them, treating them with compassion and empathy, It feels rewarding when I get to ride and manage to complete complex school movements. This I find rewarding as this challenges myself and the horses to work as a team. I enjoy being around the horses daily also I have a passion towards as I started riding when I was 4 through a family friend and loved it ever since which became a career for me.

 

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve more on my practical skills and knowledge in exercising the horses also need more confidence in myself that I am able to do the jobs to the best of my ability as I am a bit of a perfectionist as I don’t like to take shortcuts this sometimes I am a bit slower in completing the tasks at hand this is something I am working on. To be more confident in working with no stirrups in canter, bareback and jumping at higher level.

 

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Staff would say that I am a person that doesn’t miss a single duties, always punctual, hard working, willing to learn, able to work in a team and on my own, always willing to listen to instructions and feedback given to me to help improve my equine knowledge, always willing to learn new things and have completed my BHS Stage 1 during my own time and intend to BHS Stage 2.
