Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have around 10 years of experience riding and caring for horses, mainly in show jumping and eventing. Although I have not yet worked professionally in the equestrian industry, I have gained extensive practical experience at my local riding stable.
I have experience with daily horse care, grooming, tacking up, feeding, turnout, basic stable management and preparing horses for riding and competitions. I have competed in show jumping up to 1.10m and eventing up to 1.00m, and I hold the Spanish Galopes 7 qualifications in both disciplines.
I also have experience working with young horses, including backing and introducing them to their first work under saddle, as well as their first trots, canters and small jumps.
I have cared independently for up to 35 horses for several days, which helped me develop responsibility, organisation and confidence working independently. I am now looking for my first opportunity to gain experience in a professional equestrian environment and continue learning from experienced professionals.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am particularly good at working responsibly both independently and as part of a team. I am confident with the daily handling and care of horses and have experience with sport and competition horses.
My skills include grooming, tacking up, basic competition preparation, plaiting for show jumping, lunging and handling young horses. I am organised, reliable and able to manage several horses and tasks at the same time. I am also comfortable taking responsibility and working independently when required.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I enjoy most is the connection with the horses and being involved in their daily care and development. I particularly enjoy preparing horses for work or competition and seeing their progress over time. I also enjoy learning from experienced people and being part of a professional team.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
As I am still at the beginning of my professional career in the equestrian industry, I would like to continue improving my knowledge and practical skills in a professional environment. I am particularly interested in learning more about the daily management and preparation of high-level sport horses and gaining more experience with professional competition yards.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
