Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have over 14 years of experience and have worked in a verity of disciplines during my career.
I began my work in a riding school completing all the standard roles of a yard groom (mucking out, feeding, turning out, tacking up etc) also developing my skills in cash handling and leasing with clients. I then began to begin freelance work developing into breaking and backing, producing young horses, retraining of racehorses, rehabilitation and working with building confidence in more challenging horses. I also have some experience riding out racehorses.
I then moved to Hartpury where I completed my diploma in Equine Business Management with a DDD, during this time I completed a months work placement at a high level dressage yard where I gained more experience in working with top level competition horses.
For my second work placement and my current employment I am at a stud and showing facility where I assist in breaking and backing young horses, furthering their education up to taking them to their first shows under saddle. Durning this time I have also gained experience in handling young stock and stallion handling.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
In my time working with horses I have particularly enjoyed working in the breaking process and progressing a horses education from bitting to their first competition under saddle, I find this part of the job very rewarding.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Finding different approaches that suit each horse to allow them to progress in a way that they find engaging to allow them to enjoy their work.
I also enjoy working with a variety of horses at difrent stages in their training.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to build on my knowledge and ability working difrent horses and learning of different training methods that may be better suited to some horses.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I have extensive experience working in a variety of disciplines within the industry, I focus on taking an open minded approach to to my work and am passionate about the job.
