Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have been riding since I was 4 and have owned my own ponies and horses. I was an active member of the Pony Club doing all disciplines and competed for teams. I also regularly competed in unaffiliated competitions in all 3 disciplines. I cared for my own ponies/horses. I completed my level 2 equine apprenticeship at a local livery yard and then went onto Talland School of Equitation where I have worked and trained for the last 12 months. This included all horse care and also tack ups daily for private clients. I would take the horse to the school, help the client to mount and adjust tack if needed. I am training up to Elementary level in dressage and comfortable jumping 1.05m. I am confident cross country. I have a lot of experience on many different ponies and horses growing up and have had to work to produce them myself.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am very experienced handling thoroughbreds, competition horses and youngsters both on the ground and ridden. I am happy working alone and also in a team. My plaiting is good but not super quick! My lungeing is also good. I can poultice and bandage confidently. I feel that my time at Talland has given me a wide range of skills and invaluable experience in all aspects of equine management.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Apart from the riding, just being around them makes me feel calm. My yard owner told me when I was small that horses like me and I think that is because I make them feel calm too.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

My riding

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am very hard working and conscientious. The horses welfare is my number one priority, I want them to be happy. I am friendly and I like to think I’m a kind person!
