Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have grown up with horses from when I was a baby. My mother also has a great passion and love for horses and horses riding , which is how I came to love them too. I always helped her with her horses or ridden with her when I was young, going to shows with her, helping clean tack and washing her horse and platting its mane and tail. She also gave me lessons at the start of my horse riding life. I then started to go for lessons at the age of 9 years old, where I rode all kinds of horses and ponies. Got to half stable a few ponies and horse during the years I rode at this yard. I eventually got my own horse for my 16th birthday. A 1.5 year old Boerperd, who I trained up and had fun with till I moved to England. I went to shows with my horse and did a lot of fun activities with him with my mom as well. I also did riding clinics with my horse with a riding instructor called Desiree du Pisanie, who teaches a way of riding called Weightless Riding. Now in england I am continuing my passion of riding through loaning horses and also continuing with my course called Masterson Method.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am very good at working alone, but can also easily work in a team. I have experience in plaiting and preparing horses for shows. I have handled stallions before and have ridden 2 in total so far. I am confident handling a young horse and knowing how help them and correct them. I believe in working with the horse, rather than force and work against it. I value a trust and understanding between a horse and I.

I have a high standard of how I do any given job, I do not like doing something halfway. I would consider myself a very trustworthy person. I am very good with time managing. I am good with prioritising things, knowing whats more important to get done first. I learn how to do things quick when I get to start doing it myself.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I love when I have gain a horses trust and can form a bond with them. The feeling that they know me and can trust me is so rewarding. I love seeing the different personalities each horse has. Another thing I love about horses is how much they teach you through their different personalities. The challenge of figuring out what each likes and what each doesn’t. Making sure they are happy to what they need/want.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

There is never enough to my knowledge of horses, I want to keep learning more about them and learn more about working on a yard and also further my riding skills.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I always bring a high standard to any job I am given. Working with horses is also a dream of mine, therefore I want to do as much as I can to make that dream come true. I am very organised and can work independent as well if needed. I have run a yard on my own before and always got positive feedback from the horse owners who kept their horses at the yard. I always make sure all horses are well looked after and are happy.
