Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have experience riding horses from around the age of 11–14 and have a good understanding of working around horses. I am now looking to build on this experience by developing my practical horse-care and grooming skills. I currently work at a high-end kennels, where I have gained hands-on experience caring for animals and maintaining high standards of care. I am happy to have a ride or non ride career.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I have basic horse-handling skills and experience mucking out. I’m reliable, hardworking and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. I’m keen to learn, take direction well and develop my skills in horse care, grooming and yard work.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the hands-on side of working with horses, particularly their care and grooming, but I’m also very interested in the wider business and management side of the industry. My nan had horses when I was younger, which gave me an interest in horses from an early age. I’m particularly interested in learning more about the organisation and running of equestrian events and how the industry operates behind the scenes as well as the care for the animals.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to improve my practical horse-care and grooming skills, including gaining more confidence with handling horses and learning more about day-to-day yard routines. I’d also like to develop my knowledge of yard management and the organisation and running of equestrian events.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
- I have practical experience with basic horse handling and mucking out, alongside experience caring for animals in a professional setting. I’m comfortable following routines, taking responsibility for the tasks I’m given and working around animals calmly and carefully. I’m also particularly interested in the organisation and running of equestrian events, which is an area I’d like to gain real experience in. I want to build on my existing skills and work towards a career that combines horse care with the management and events side of the equestrian industry.
