Future Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job? 

I am looking for a full-time live-in position in animal care, stable or stud work, preferably in Germany or elsewhere in Europe. As I do not yet have professional equine experience, I would be very open to joining at entry level and receiving proper training from experienced professionals.

After many years in different professional roles, including management, customer service, operations, creative work and physically demanding cleaning, I have become much clearer about what I want from my working life. I have always enjoyed practical work because I find it grounding and rewarding, and animals have always been a very important source of happiness for me. At this stage of my life, I am less interested in status and more interested in building a working life that feels purposeful, grounded and honest. That is one of the main reasons I am so motivated to move into animal care.

I previously lived and worked in Germany from 2006 to 2008 and spoke German reasonably well at the time. I am currently very rusty after many years without using it, but I would be completely willing to study and relearn the language. I am a Spanish/EU citizen and fully willing to relocate.

• Do you need accommodation?

Yes. I am specifically interested in live-in positions or roles where staff accommodation is available.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No. I would not be bringing any animals with me.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No ongoing commitments that would prevent me from relocating for the right position.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No.

Experience with Horses

I do not have professional equine experience and I want to be completely transparent about that.

When I was younger, my uncle had a rural property with horses. I spent time around them, rode occasionally and was shown some basic care such as feeding. This was many years ago, so I would consider myself a beginner rather than experienced.

My aim now would be to learn correct horse handling, stable routines and day-to-day care properly from experienced staff.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am naturally patient, caring and observant, and I have always felt very comfortable around animals. I am calm, gentle and attentive, and I tend to notice small changes in behaviour or mood.

I am also very comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for the tasks I am given. I enjoy practical, hands-on work and I am completely comfortable with cleaning, physical work and repetitive routines. I have high standards of hygiene and I like doing things properly and consistently.

Although I have experience supervising teams and making decisions in previous roles, I am not looking for a management position here. What I would bring from that experience is maturity, good judgement, reliability and the ability to stay calm when something needs to be dealt with properly.

I learn well when I am shown how something should be done, and I am happy to listen, take instruction and build new practical skills step by step.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I have not yet worked professionally with horses, so I cannot honestly describe what I enjoy about doing it as a job.

What I can say is that horses have fascinated me since I was very young. I used to dream about them, draw them constantly, and I have always admired their sensitivity, strength, presence, nobility and that sense of freedom and untamed nature they seem to carry even when domesticated. Even now, being around horses makes me feel calm and deeply connected to them.

What attracts me most about working with them is the opportunity to care for them through everyday practical work, to build trust over time and to gradually learn to understand their individual behaviour and needs. I would find it very rewarding to contribute to their wellbeing through feeding, cleaning, observation, routine and consistent care.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I always believe there is something new to learn and improve, whatever the role. I like to keep developing, becoming more confident and doing things better with experience.

In this position, there would obviously be a lot for me to learn, particularly practical equine knowledge, correct horse handling, stable routines and the day-to-day skills expected in a professional yard or stud. I would be very happy to start with the basics, learn properly from experienced people and keep improving over time.

I would also like to rebuild my German, which I previously spoke reasonably well when I lived in Germany.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I may not have the conventional equine background, but I can offer maturity, reliability, empathy and a very strong work ethic.

Over the years I have worked in very different roles, including positions with significant responsibility as well as more practical, hands-on work. That experience has given me a much clearer understanding of what I value in working life. I am fortunate to currently have a responsible position and a good salary, so this is not a decision I am making simply because I need “another job”.

At this stage of my professional life, I am much less interested in status, titles or how a role may look from the outside. What matters more to me is doing work that feels personally meaningful and that I can genuinely care about. Work takes up a large part of our lives, and I believe it is important to spend that time doing something that brings a real sense of purpose and satisfaction.

That is why I would bring genuine commitment to this change of direction. I am not looking at animal care as a temporary idea. I am looking for something I could genuinely dedicate myself to, learn properly and become good at over time.
