• Animals to bring? None.
• Ongoing commitments? I can work up to 20 hours a week and am flexible on days, including early mornings and weekends.
• Holidays booked? None. I am available over Christmas and New Year, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Experience with Horses
I have over 10 years of hands-on, non-ridden experience with horses across a racing yard/racecourse, a stud with broodmares and foals, and private and family yards, including many years on my family’s own stud farm, Ozkan Stud.
At the stud I looked after broodmares, foals and young horses. On the racing side I cared for racehorses every day, including getting them ready for racing. In private and family yards I did all daily yard work.
My daily duties have included mucking out, feeding and haying, grooming, rugging, turnout and bringing in, leading and handling horses of all ages, tack cleaning, poo picking, cleaning water troughs and buckets, and keeping the yard tidy and safe. I do not ride, but I am happy to do every other job on the yard.
Key Skills
- Calm, confident and safe handling of broodmares, foals, young stock and racehorses
- All non-ridden yard duties: mucking out, feeding, grooming, rugging, turnout and bringing in, tack cleaning
- Works well in a team and takes pride in high yard standards
- Reliable and punctual; used to physical outdoor work in all weathers
- Full UK driving licence and own car
- First Aid trained (St John Ambulance)
- Fluent English, native Turkish
- BEng Mechanical Engineering and MSc Engineering Project Management: practical, organised and good with records and numbers
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses? Getting to know each horse’s character, looking after mares and foals, and seeing horses healthy, settled and well cared for.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve? I don’t ride, so I am looking for non-ridden roles. I am always keen to learn more about stud work and foaling.
• Why should employers consider you? Over 10 years of practical experience, a calm way with horses, a strong work ethic, my own transport and full availability over Christmas and New Year.
