Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I am an experienced and highly motivated individual with over 10 years experience working with
horses and ponies across a range of ages, types and temperaments. I am currently a freelance groom
and work for a Welsh Section A stud with champion bloodlines and an excellent showing career. I am
confident handling stallions, broodmares and foals and being responsible for maintaining the yard to
a high standard. I have completed my BHS stage 1 ride and care and I am insured with the British
Grooms Association. I am happy to work independently and on my own initiative, as well as being a
supportive member of a team with a kind and confident approach whilst keeping the welfare of the
horses at the forefront and maintaining a smooth running of the yard. I appreciate keeping within
timescales in a safely manner is important. I am looking for a part time role where I can contribute to
the day to day running of the yard and where appropriate, develop my skills further and progress my
career in an area I am hugely passionate about. I have a genuine passion for horse welfare and take
pride in providing a high standard of care.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am confident handling horses and ponies in a calm and reassuring manner and enjoy groundwork/bringing on young and inexperienced horses and ponies. I enjoy developing a relationship and gaining trust with patience and positive reinforcement. I take pride in the standard of my work when carrying out general yard duties, ensuring adequate feeding and clean water supply. Mucking out to a high standard of cleanliness and presentation, with particular attention to the detail and comfort of each horse. Turning out and bringing in safely. Ensuring correct feeding to each individual pony, administering any necessary medication. Assisting vets/farriers/dentists when required. Assisting with covering mares, handling stallions and weaning foals. I take pride in turning out for shows to perfection, and can assist with bathing, clipping, exercising etc.
Alongside my equestrian experience, I also have eight years’ customer service experience within a Consumer Protection organisation, supported by a Level 3 qualification in Business Administration and numerous training certifications. This has given me excellent communication and organisational skills, confidence dealing with members of the public with a professional and approachable manner. I understand the importance of providing a welcoming and positive experience for customers and would bring the same high standards, reliability and care to working with clients and their families. I would be grateful for the opportunity to represent the business and I can remain calm in busy or challenging environments. I am confident in managing confidential information, updating and maintaining accurate records, and following procedures in line with GDPR and data protection. I enjoy dealing with children and young people, I have completed safeguarding training and currently hold a full DBS.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I have a huge passion for horses and being on the yard is my sanctuary. Developing relationships and gaining trust, working with young horses and ensuring positive first experiences for them. My particular strengths would be working with unhandled/nervous/inexperienced horses and giving them time and patience to build their confidence whilst remaining assertive and confident to work safely.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Since having my daughter and producing her pony for the lead rein, my riding has taken a back seat. This is something I would be interested in getting back into.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I treat every animal like my own and will go above and beyond to ensure the welfare, comfort and safety is of a high standard. I am able to work off my own initiative and am dependable to work solely on the yard and complete tasks within a timely manner whilst taking care of each animals individual needs. I truly love each and every horse and pony I work with, and will spend the extra time in getting to know them and developing a positive relationship.
