Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I am currently studying Equine Science and Business at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, where I am fully involved in both the practical and academic aspects of the course. I have owned and cared for my own and others’ horses all of my life, riding at grassroots level in eventing and dressage. I have been in the Pony Club for over 10 years, in which I have obtained my PC B test (care and riding) and my lunging test. I have care for horses on full livery for weeks at a time, whilst their owners were away, where I confidently stuck to their routine and exercised them as instructed. I have had work experience at a veterinary hospital, as well as with a 5* event rider and a BHSI coach.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am happy to rise to any job I am put to and give it my best efforts. I am self motivated and seeking further experience in the industry, as well as my wage contributing to funding my time at university. I am capable of exercising horses, mucking out to a good standard (shavings and straw), lunging, clipping, plaiting, turning out/bringing in, minor first aid, holding horses for the farrier/vet etc. Please note I would rather be hired on a fixed term basis than provide odd jobs, as I am looking for a regular income. I am have experience and confidence with handling all sorts of horses, from competition to young-stock to riding school ponies. I can also handle other animals, such as dogs, cats, chickens, sheep etc.
I am very happy to work alone, as well as with others. I am sociable and would consider myself easy to get along with.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I have found the constant need to think on my feet great in developing my decision making and problem solving skills. Their company motivates me too.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Not improve, but gaining further experience in different types of work within the industry.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am quick-witted and adaptable, very capable of dropping whatever I am doing if circumstances change or there is an emergency. I always keep a cool head in times of crisis. For me, welfare of the horse trumps getting the job done quickly.
