Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I was head girl on a 4* event yard 2021 – 2024, managing the day to day tasks of a yard manager for our event horses but also 10-15 livery horses and our staff horses. Also travelling to all training and competitions with our event horses ranging from 4 year olds to 4* level. I also organised all the feed/bedding/hay orders as well as farriers, dentist, physios and vets appointments. This has left me with good communication skills with professionals but also our clients/liveries and also made me very aware of the need to plan ahead when you can!

I then went freelance from Feb 2024 – Oct 2025, mainly grooming for a hunt/eventing family but also grooming at other events with multiple riders including grooming at Luhmuhlen 5* in Germany in June 2025.

Since then I have worked at Donnington Grove Equine Vets as a Yard Assistant, this involves the general daily duties of mucking out, haying, feeding and caring for the horses. Also doing admission/discharge forms, helping horses for procedures, putting horses into knockdown and getting out of recovery. As well as keeping on top of yard maintenance, keeping the yard tidy for owners/professionals and again communicating with these people, sometimes in stressful situations.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I would say my communication skills are very good, always good at keeping owners/clients up to date and meeting their needs depending on how much communication they like. I’m very good at working on my own and using my initiative as to what needs to be done and what tasks to prioritise however I am also good at delegating tasks and working out who would best suit certain jobs. Also my turnout skills, having won best turned out at Blenheim Horse Trials in the 4*L in 2022 which was my first time grooming at a long format event.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy creating a bond with each horse and understanding their individual needs and seeing their quirks/personalities.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I just want to have more experiences!

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am very determined, loyal and a hard worker. I have worked since leaving school at 16 and have always had to work hard for what I want and to fund my own horses.
