Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I am particularly good at working independently, organising daily yard routines and managing multiple responsibilities efficiently. I am confident overseeing the care of several horses, coordinating yard duties and supporting or managing other staff when required. I am experienced in handling horses with different temperaments and abilities, recognising changes in their behaviour or wellbeing and adapting my approach to suit each individual horse. I am also confident with feeding, grooming, mucking out, turning out and bringing in, general yard maintenance and basic training and schooling. My riding experience includes dressage, show jumping, cross-country, hunting, beach rides and general schooling. I am reliable, practical and welfare-focused, work well as part of a team and am comfortable taking responsibility for tasks and making decisions when working alone.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am particularly good at working independently, taking initiative and managing my time effectively to ensure all yard duties are completed to a high standard. I have experience managing a full livery yard of 12 horses and overseeing staff, so I am confident organising daily routines, prioritising tasks and taking responsibility for the care and welfare of multiple horses. I am hardworking, practical and physically fit, and I am always willing to get stuck into any job, whether it involves mucking out, grooming, feeding, turning out, bringing in or general yard maintenance. I am confident handling horses with different temperaments and abilities and have a strong riding background, including schooling, dressage, show jumping, cross-country and hunting. I work well both independently and as part of a team, have a keen eye for detail and take pride in being reliable, adaptable and calm around horses. My wider farm experience has also given me confidence working with livestock, machinery and physically demanding outdoor environments.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy working with horses because you have to make sure you are calm and relaxed when working around them as they can pick up on how you are feeling. I also find it helps working with them because if I am stressed I find their a good stress relief and really make me think before doing anything.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
My skills and knowledge in the competition world. I’d also like to improve my riding but that isn’t essential with the job.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
An employer should consider me because I bring genuine passion for horses, practical experience and a strong work ethic. Horses have been a part of my life since I was four, so this is more than just a job to me; it is something I genuinely love and take pride in. I have hands-on experience as a freelance groom, hold a Level 3 qualification in Equine Management and have managed a full livery yard of 12 horses, including overseeing staff and taking responsibility for the daily running of the yard. I am not afraid of hard work, long hours, early mornings or getting my hands dirty, and I am always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the horses in my care are happy, healthy and well looked after. I am confident working independently, take initiative without needing constant supervision and understand the importance of reliability, teamwork and attention to detail. I would bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the ability to take responsibility, making me someone an employer can depend on to work hard and put the horses first.
