Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
Hi, I’m Lila. I’ve been around horses for as long as I can remember, and they have
always been the biggest part of my life. I started riding when I was four years old
and, since then, I have wanted to understand every part of working with horses – not
only riding, but also their behaviour, daily care, health and recovery.
I currently work as a Horse Trail Guide in Costa Rica, where I prepare horses, guide
rides, care for them every day and help riders of different ages and experience
levels feel safe and confident. I have also helped children learn how to approach,
handle, groom and ride horses. Teaching has developed my patience,
communication and awareness because every rider and every horse needs a
different approach.
I enjoy working with young horses and have practical experience in English riding,
jumping, lunging, grooming, stable routines and horse transport. One of the most
important experiences I have had was helping rehabilitate a horse after a serious
trailer accident. For more than three months, I assisted with wound care, bandage
changes, medication, cold hosing, hand-walking and monitoring its progress.
Seeing that horse recover confirmed that I want to dedicate my future to equine
rehabilitation and physiotherapy. I am looking for a professional yard where I can
work hard, learn from experienced equestrians and become a dependable member
of the team. My long-term goal is to become a qualified Equine Physiotherapist and
help horses return to comfort, movement and performance.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am particularly experienced in handling, training and working with young horses, as well as stallions. I am confident in groundwork, developing horses’ skills, and building trust and a good connection with each horse. I am comfortable working independently and as part of a team, and I am confident handling a variety of animals, including dogs and cats. I am also happy to help with general household cleaning and keeping the home tidy and organised.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
have loved horses with all my heart for as long as I can remember, and it is difficult to choose just one thing I love most about working with them. I enjoy building a connection with each horse, understanding their individual personalities, and learning something new from every horse I work with. I believe every horse is different and has something unique to teach us, which is one of the many reasons my passion for working with, handling, and training horses continues to grow.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I don’t have anything specific in mind, as I love learning from every experience, improving my skills, and discovering something new from each horse I work with.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am passionate, hardworking, and always eager to learn. I have experience handling and training young horses and stallions, as well as hands-on equine rehabilitation experience, including caring for a horse recovering from a serious trailer accident. I am patient, reliable, and adaptable, and I always strive to provide the best care while continuing to develop my skills and knowledge.
