Experience with Horses

  • Since joining the industry I have worked as a stud groom at an Irish Draught Stud. I trained and was promoted to yard manger at The Talland School of Equitation. I worked for a short period at an eventers and rehab yard and then was recruited to work as a teaching support officer at The College of West anglia where I managed the equine rehab and treadmill centre. In order to complete my masters in Veterinary Physiotherapy I took a job for a year at a high end livery yard in Hertfordshire handling competition horses, stallions and young stock and delivery a full livery service. I have been the yard manager at a different college now for 5 years, I line manage a team of 7 staff and oversee the facilities and a 50 horse capacity yard.

  • I currently hold my BHSAI qualification and  coach our college students across the disciplines. I also teach staff theory towards their BHS stage exams. Currently, I am training towards my BHSII and I still train with Pammy Hutton and complete jump training at Wellington riding on a weekly basis. To fund my training I freelance coach at a local riding centre on the weekends teaching all ages.

  • Due to the establishments I have worked at I am now versed in using the weighbridge, Mag rug, Aqua Treadmill and Hydrotherapy Spa. I have handled a range horses safely and ensure that the staff I supervise do the same.  As yard manager in my current and previous role I am responsible for managing the horses daily routine and the facilities themselves. I am also experienced at being calm and professional when interacting with the vet, farrier, clients, others coaches etc. I enjoy working as a team and learning in a fast paced environment. I am competent when managing rotas, completing feed/ bedding orders etc and can make appropriate decisions when left in sole charge.

Skills

  • I am reliable and hardworking,  I can plan a day based on what the objectives of the day must be and when needed I can adapt a plan to ensure horses or human needs are met. I would be confident to be in sole charge
  • I am happy to coach with a positive and informed attitude.
  • Overall, I enjoy working with horses and being part of team which works towards the horses improvement, from the general management to the ridden work.
  • I have 10 years management experience in large multi discipline establishments
  • I understand the importance of offering a great service to riding school clients, livery yard clients or horse owners.
  • I can clip, bandage, plait etc
