Experience with Horses
I have worked on a variety of yards from riding schools, liveries and studs and am well rounded in all aspects of horse care and management. I have completed a diploma and degree in horse management and coaching. I am currently an assistant head groom on a very busy private stables looking after and riding horses belonging to a high profile client. On my days in charge I manage a team of up to 15 grooms (can be up to 20 in our high season) and ensure the smooth day to day running of the yard, maintain a high standard of care and allocating horses for riding as well as delegating jobs to be done around the yard. I also liase with the vet, farrier, physio and dentist ensuring horses are up to date on all and up to date with worming and worm counts.
Key Skills
I take initiative when working alone but am also able to motivated individuals when working within a team. I can plait, clip, trim, turn out for shows and complete tasks within an industry time frame whilst maintaining a high quality of work. I have worked with stallions, broad mares, miniture horses, young horses and foals. I have excellent communication and people skills and can adapt my management style to any environment.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy all aspects of working with horses as I feel the partnership that can be achieved with a horse is like no other. I also enjoy watching people experience the joys of not just riding horses but being around them and learning about what it takes to care for them.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to further my progression within running a yard. Ideally working my way up to a head groom/managerial position.

I pride myself on being a hard working individual who is always prepared to go the extra mile. I am also looking for a career and so intend to stay at any work place for as long as possible to ensure I learn the most. Progression within my career is also important to me.

Continue within a senior role, eventually working my way to a head groom/managerial position. I am also always looking to further improve and develop existing skills.
