Experience:

20 years experience with horses have allowed me to gain advanced knowledge in many spheres; from equine care and wellbeing, to dietary requirements- as well as being a great pair of eyes on the ground.

Current work: I currently work alongside 3 vet nurses as part of an animal welfare management team, so have an advanced inventory of knowledge in regards to equine and canine health and medication.

Previous equine Jobs:

  • Manager of family run yard in Shropshire, Sole charge of 10+ Horses, few being actively used and hunted. Horse types and sizes ranging from 14HH Vanner X (childs pony) to a 17HH TB X ISH (Owners hunting horse. Within this job I had to maintain the arena surface, harrow fields, build jumps and courses etc. I also worked as the families dog sitter and babysitter – of which involved teaching the owner’s grandchild how to ride.
  • Breaking jockey (2014-2018) Breaking jockey for a lively/ Breaking yard in Penzance: Focusing on problem horses and ponies and breaking young horses. Skills gained: Long reigning, Lunging, Backing, Bitting, Flatwork, Schooling, Jump training, XC schooling etc.
  • Show groom Equiservice show team (2016-2018

My career has also consisted of being a show groom. This very quickly led me to realise that I have a real love for horse trimming and show prep.
On an average show day, I had to get each horse prepared for 3-4 classes.

SS hunt

During the first lockdown I took on the job of head groom, this was a live in job in south Shropshire. The hunt horses had a very strict schedule, which meant punctuality each morning was a necessity.

My personal riding ability:

I have a secure seat, soft hands though do not allow a horse to take advantage. I have schooled up to a good level, Jumped to a good level and and confident on all I am put on.

Key Skills

Clipping, Mane and tail pulling, plaiting, schooling, lunging, jumping, long reining, Grooming, XC schooling, Yard duties, Equine nutrition, canine nutrition, vet nurse assistant, Handy work, tractor work

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses? More than anything- being outside and busy, I flourish when given responsibilities and horses and working with them is something that simply has my heart.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve? I would like to get my HGV, and due to working back down in Cornwall, I haven’t had the opportunity to ride as much as I would like to, so any time to ride would be appreciated.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker? I (apart from my one dog) do not have any large responsibilities to distract me, I enjoy working away, can get on with being left alone and manage every situation that crosses my path with full confidence. I don’t shy away from a challenge and due to working within a team of vet nurses- also have brilliant equine health knowledge
