Experience with Horses
I have worked with horses for over 12 years now. I have previously competed up to 4* eventing, Advanced dressage, 1.35m Show Jumping and Showing. I also have background knowledge about driving but would love to learn more. I have previously worked in young stock production and as competition rider at a yard in Johannesburg, South Africa. I came over to the UK in 2019 to expand on this knowledge and compete internationally in Eventing. I worked for William Fox-Pitt & Kazuma Tomoto for 18 months. I have plenty of knowledge and skills when it comes to equine care, management, nutrition, fitness, schooling, competing & turnout (clipping, pulling & plaiting). I have previously worked in equine retail and equally would be open to an equine oriented office based job to expand my skill set. I worked briefly as an estate agent so have excellent communication & organisation skills. I have a group of clients that I teach regularly and I help cover teaching at Burley Lodge Riding School.
Key Skills
I enjoy working as a part of a team but equally have managed yards on my own. I have good time management and people skills. I take huge pride in my turnout skills and am able to produce a variety of different styles of plaits. I run my own clipping business during the appropriate season and have my own clippers. I previously worked for a Zimbabwean showjumper and gained a huge amount of skills in terms of producing young horses from scratch and handling stallions. I then built on this knowledge with my time at Fox-Pitt Eventing. I would equally be interested in gaining more experience in an office based equestrian-centred job. I am a quick learner and always strive to produce work to the best of my abilities.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Being outdoors and the reward of building a trust based bond with the horses I work with.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would be interested in gaining more knowledge and skills in carriage driving. There is always rooms for improvement in the equine industry as every day you learn something new.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am dedicated and reliable, the horse always comes first and I bring an enthusiastic and humorous outlook to any sphere of the job while maintaining a professional standard of work.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would like to keep building on my current equine knowledge as every yard/ job has something new to teach. Open to trying new things and learning new skills. I would like to be able to teach/ instruct more frequently.
• Do you need accommodation?
Not if local to my house in Basingstoke.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I may have to bring my dog with me to work a few days a week, but very well trained and friendly with other dogs, horses & children.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
I have to look after mini donkeys at each end of the day and am not available on Thursday mornings as I’m booked at another yard.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
I will be away from the 23rd of June to the 13th of August 2025 as I’m going travelling. Then planning to work a ski season in France over winter 25/26.
