Experience with Horses

  • Seeking a long-term position within Northern Ireland or surrounding counties, ideally within commuting distance of Dungannon*

I am a BHS Stage 2 Coach with a wide-ranging background in instruction, riding, and yard management. Most recently, I worked at Castle Leslie Estate, where I taught a diverse range of guests and clients, delivering trail rides, flatwork, show jumping, and cross-country lessons. I was responsible for managing horses’ day-to-day care and ensuring guests had a safe and enjoyable riding experience.

Previously, I gained valuable experience as a competitive groom and yard manager, attending both national and international shows within show jumping and eventing. I’ve worked at top-level events such as Dublin Horse Show, Burghley, and Oliva Nova, taking horses in and out of the ring, warming up riders, and maintaining horses at peak condition during long-distance stays.

As a rider, I’m confident and competent in producing and educating a variety of horses and ponies. I have competed up to 1.20m in Show Jumping and EI90 in Eventing, with a training approach based on classical scales and long-term development.

After taking a 6-month break from the equine industry, I am now eager and ready to return to work. I’m looking for a role that is either:

  • Riding-focused, with clear opportunities for ongoing coaching and progression as part of the work package, or

  • A teaching/instructor position that involves more structured responsibilities, such as lesson planning, bookings, client scheduling, and even social media—which I am happy to manage as part of the role.

Key Skills

  • Teaching all levels of riders (private and group lessons)

  • Trail riding, flatwork, jumping, and cross-country instruction

  • Confident sole charge of horses and full yard management

  • Skilled in producing young horses with a strong foundation

  • Excellent communication and organisation skills

  • Competed up to 1.20m SJ and EI90 Eventing

Qualifications & Education:

  • BHS Stage 2 Coach

  • BHS Equine First Aid

  • First Aid Responder

  • Certificate of Competence in Horse Transport (over 8 hours)

  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management

  • BA (Hons) in Media and Communication

  • Full UK Driver’s Licence

Strengths and Weaknesses

What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
The bond built with horses through consistent care, training, and time is what I value most. They are always teaching you, and that constant learning is something I cherish in this industry.

Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’m always seeking to grow my skills—particularly now that I’m re-entering the workforce. I’m open to new challenges and learning opportunities in both riding and yard management, and I’m especially keen to strengthen my understanding of the business side of running a professional yard.

Why should employers consider you above other job seekers?
I bring dedication, reliability, and a clear passion for the industry. I’m happy to work hard, stay late, and pitch in where needed. I take pride in being adaptable and professional, and I always give 100% to a team I believe in.

Requirements

What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I am seeking a long-term position within Northern Ireland or surrounding counties, ideally within commuting distance of Dungannon. I’m looking for either a riding position with scope for further development and mentorship, or a structured teaching role with involvement in lesson planning, client communication, schedules, and even social media or digital tasks, thanks to my background in media.

Do you need accommodation?
Yes, I would require accommodation on site or nearby. If living in is necessary, I have two well-behaved cats (Sage and Saint), and would need a place that can accommodate them.

Do you have any special requirements for animals?
I would require space for one horse as part of the package. I’m hoping to create a long-term base, so having my own horse with me is important.

Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No.

Do you have any holidays booked?
Nothing planned after August 5th.
