Experience with horses 

Having grown up with horses and ponies since a young age I have worked at multiple different yards and in different aspects of the equine world along side owning and producing my own horses.

I attended pony club as a young girl, progressing in show jumping and mounted gymkhana games. I then volunteered at my local riding stables for camps and competitions.

I became a member of the Cotswold hunt as a teenager, where I hunted regularly throughout the seasons on my own horses but also hunt horses. I did work at my local hunt stables, caring and exercising the hunters and also doing hound and puppy exercise.

I have worked for a 5* event rider Nicola Hill on her own eventing yard. Caring for 4-5 eventing horses ranging from 2* to 5* sole charge.

I have also worked on multiple different livery yards, including riding schools, completing morning and evening routine care ranging up-to 15 – 20 horses.

I have experience with stallions, having spent a short time working for a PRE dressage rider who competed Andalusian and Iberian horses.

I have had a live in sole charge position riding and caring for three hunters/competition horses over a 5.5 day week. I have also had experience gardening with this role, working on machines mowing grass and leaf collecting in the autumn and winter months.

 I have a particular interest in western riding and a more natural horsemanship approach to working horses, both of which I’d potentially love to explore further in a role.
I currently do not have any of my own horses.

 

 

Key Skills

• I have a lot of experience working sole charge and feel competent and confident to do so
• I am confident working and handling stallions, youngsters and fit competition horses
• I am able to clip, plait (bands/needle and thread), pull manes and turn out to show standard.
• I have veterinary experience having been a SVN in small practice so am able to apply these skills I have learnt to the equine world
• I am confident to school and jump horses to a decent standard and am more than happy to hack.

 

 

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy the fact that day to day with horses is generally never the same and the escapism it has always given me to be around horses.

 

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I feel I am a person who always tries to be the best version of myself. I have a natural caring nature which allows working with horses, or any animal for that matter, to be something that I enjoy and come naturally. I always try to do the very best in what is asked of me.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would love a day to day role that has the flexibility to allow me to continue my artwork as I also am a pet/wildlife artist. Please see Jemma Worsfold Art on socials. A home groom role would probably suit the best for me and hopefully a potential employer who needs someone that is happy and content to look after their horses on a day to day home basis. I would love to explore the western side of the equestrian world but this is just something I am particularly interested in absolutely not a must have, I have rode english my whole life. I love hacking and am competent in doing so, a trekking lead role would also potentially suit.

• Do you need accommodation?

Dependent on the location, yes.  I am open to different areas of the UK.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No special requirements, I have two mature 8 year old dogs, both spayed females. Both used to yard life and horses. A working cocker spaniel and a Malamute cross. I do not have my own horses.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No, aside from my artwork which I would need to continue.
