Experience with Horses
Started my career as a volunteer at the RDA, since then I was trained by an Olympic competition groom, and went to work on a private yard looking after 5 retired event horses. I then started at equine college studying and completing a level 3 diploma in equine management. Whilst this I worked on an international dressage yard, I started as the trainer and now run the yard including show preparations. I have also worked for a short time in a top stud and completed work experience in a national event yard. Along side my assistant yard manager role, I also have work on an additional national dressage yard. Although I’m young I’ve had a lot of experience in a short space of time.
have experience:
handling competition and covering stallions
show turnout and packing for away completions/grooming
running a yard day to day
working in sole charge
hacking/exercising completions horses
dealing with vets physio etc
taking feed orders
dealing with livery clients and owners
creating feed and fitness plans
handling youngstock
Key Skills
Organisation – managing the yard
show turnout
clipping
stallion handling
Driving license
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Seeing them progress and improve.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’m very direct and sometimes a bit impatient, this is a constant learning curve
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m hard working, organised, I care for the horses I work with, will support my boss to strive for success. (I’m a low maintenance person)
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I love the competition grooming and would like to continue this. This industry is a constant learning curve so hard to pinpoint. Always want to progress my riding too. Would love to gain and HGV license.
• Do you need accommodation?
Depends on location
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
Dependant on location I would want my horse to come with me, he’s very easy and chilled.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
Just the horse
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
Climbing Ben Nevis 20th April.
