Experience with Horses

I have been around horses since I can remember, having been born into a horsey family. Growing up I was in my local Pony club before later joining British eventing, competing my own horse. Throughout my time at school I volunteered for an event rider before later getting a part time job there, I was responsible for all usual yard duties as well as exercising horses including hacking, schooling and canter work. I also got to groom away at competitions. At 18 I went to Hartpury college and completed my extended diploma in horse management achieving D* D* D*.

Once graduated I worked on a quarantine yard for an equine charity, we worked closely with vets, doing tests and scopes while rehabilitating ill and malnourished horses. This then lead me onto getting a job within the veterinary practice doing an administrative role, I learnt lots about different issues and cases as well as dealing face to face with a lot of owners.

For the past 4 months I have been volunteering in South Africa and Botswana at Horizon Horse back Safaris, I have been a back up guide ensuring safety for guests as well as training and educating new and young horses that haven’t seen game before making sure they’re safe and well schooled for guests. There is also a lot of involvement with guests to ensure they are having a good holiday. At both locations I have been responsible for usual duties such as, feeding, grooming, basic veterinary care etc.

Key Skills

I consider my keys skills to be my ability to work well alone but also get stuck in and work well as team.

I can plait and clip to a good standard  however they are both something I can always improve on. I’m quick and willing to learn any new skills. I also feel I am responsible and very conscientious and take pride in everything I do.

I am happy handling and riding an array of different horses.

I am alway keen to continue my development and gain knowledge where I can.

Strengths and Weaknesses

I really enjoy how rewarding horses are, having little break throughs with something you have been working on.
Also the success that comes with all the hours and hard work you put in throughout the year with the whole team.

I also enjoy getting to know horses as individuals and getting to know their personalties and quirks.

I’m always looking to improve where I can, whether It be my grooming/turnout skills or aspects of my riding.

I take pride in my work, I’m a very organised and tidy person and I work hard to try and go above and beyond to make everything plain sailing.
Having worked in a variety of different yards with different aims I feel that I have been able to expand and transfer my knowledge in different aspects.

Requirements

I would love to work on a yard where I can get stuck in and really become part of the team/family.

Depending on the location I would need accommodation.

If possible I would like to bring my horse.

No ongoing commitments.

At the moment I do not have any holidays booked. However I don’t back to the UK until Mid to late February.
