- Experience with Horses
I have over 20 years experience in the equine industry.
In my earlier years I’ve worked in nearly every discipline as a groom/rider, including plenty of sole charge jobs.
I worked at a large re-hab yard for 4 years where I gained a wealth of experience & set me down a different path.
In between freelancing I’ve had my own yard for the last 7 years, where I’ve had horses in to re-hab including a huge variety of physical & behavioural problems. I’ve also had many young horses in to start for other people as well as having a constant flow of green horses I buy to produce and sell. This includes many that have never been handled or are very nervous, which I’ve worked with until they are at a stage to back and find a new home for.
I’ve had over 20 ex-race horses which I get to a stage to sell or keep for myself to compete.
I’ve done a couple of seasons part time work at a big breeding operation which included handling stallions, mares/ foal & being part of the AI process. I learnt a huge amount from this and have since bred one foal myself & have another due this year.
At the moment I’m doing a mixture of freelance teaching & helping a variety of clients with horses, both working them from the ground and ridden.
I’ve completed in Lower levels of dressage, SJ & eventing due to most horses I have through are young/inexperienced.
I’ve also done a lot of house sitting which has come about through other work.
Key Skill
Sole charge, working alone, self motivated, organisation, overseeing a larger operation.
Very adaptable and resourceful & able to think on my feet especially in a crisis.
Plenty of Knowledge & experience with difficult/nervous/yound horses & this is an area I’m highly skilled in.
Strengths and Weakness
I still love the variety and the fact every day is different in mh line of work.
I always love to keep learning which is why i train with new people, I’m always open to looking at new ways of doing things.
I think ive got a huge amount of skill that a lot of equestrians don’t. Specifically in the specialist areas I’ve mentioned.
My experience has been so varied, I think I have much more to bring to a role than many.
Requirements
gaining skills in a new area is always on my list but I’d like to be doing a bit less travelling than I’m currently doing.
• Do you need accommodation?
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
