Experience with Horses
I have been working with horses since I was 13 (26 now) having completed a degree studying equine studies at Moreton Morrell 2 years ago I have been in an admin job since. My main passion in life is dressage, however I have worked in riding schools and on livery yards so am experienced with a wide range of horses. I have been riding 20 years, mainly focusing on flatwork as due to a nasty fall I no longer feel confident to jump. I am comfortable with most general yard duties and a range of horses from competition horses to young and spooky ones.
Key Skills
I am really good at working in a team as well as alone. In a previous position I was left in sole charge of a 11 horse yard most afternoons, having the ability to work my way through a list of jobs. Equally I can work well in a team, taking command as well as also being in a position of leadership. I am confident with a range of horses and activities within a yard environment. Riding and schooling is a passion of mine, where I like to feel the improvement of the horse throughout the session, however riding is not an essential part of the job. I am also able to deal with clients and customers well due to my experience in livery yards and riding schools.
Strengths and Weaknesses
- I thoroughly enjoy providing the best care possible for each individual horse. I like learning their different mannerisms and attitudes and adapting my behaviour to best suit each horse.
- I currently am unable to clip, this is because I have never been taught so I am definitely eager to learn, similarly with plaiting, I have never been taught correctly so this is definitely an area for improvement.
- Horses are not just a hobby or a job to earn money for me. Horses are my life. My dedication to each individual horse is something I pride myself on. Horses are a job I want for my future and the only thing I have any passion and drive for.
Requirements
- I would love to learn to clip as I feel these are essential skills within this industry that could really boost me. I would also (although not essential) like to have the bonus of being able to ride within the position, even hacking provides me with enjoyment as it is simply being on a horse that I love.
