Experience with Horses

I have been riding since I was 7 years 0ld and I completed level 1 and 2 diploma’s in work based horse care when I left school. I worked on a livery/competition yard for three years where I built a lot of knowledge and was promoted to head girl in the last two years where I tutored work placements and college students apprenticeships. I am now 26 years old and have been working in a position with the council where I have learnt valuable management skills which I can take to any yard. I am now looking to work back on a yard as I feel working with horses is my passion and would like to get back into this sector. I have loaned a couple of horses since then of which I can get very good character references. I have now got my own ex race horse which I have re trained and I am now competing competently in dressage and show jumping and plan to slowly work up the levels.

Key Skills

  • In my current job role I manage my own diary and lone work, meaning I am very organised and like t0 ensure I am working as efficiently as possible.
  • As well as working independently I am very much a team player and work well with other people. I am very approachable and friendly.
  • At the livery/competition yard, we used to handle stallions and take them to in hand competitions.
  • I am able to clip – I currently clip the horses every winter at my livery yard.
  • I am able to plait and trim as I have my own horse which I compete regularly.
  • I am very hardworking and enjoy all aspects of horse care, I am not fazed with any type of work that is required.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy everything about working with horses and I have never got fed up with mucking out, this is something I enjoy. I enjoy horse care and learning new things. Ground work is something I love to do with my own horse and feel this is very beneficial to ridden work.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my turn out skills – plaiting is something I would like to improve. I feel there is always new things to learn and I am very happy to learn.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am very hardworking and committed, I will always put my all into anything I do. I have a real passion for working with horses and feel I will be an asset to any team if given a chance. I regularly dog sit/housesit for two couples when they need and I can get very good character references.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I am looking to gain valuable experience in the equine sector, there is many things to learn and I get excited about the aspect of learning new things that I am passionate about.

• Do you need accommodation?

Yes.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I am happy to keep my horse at its current livery yard in the midlands, so I would need to be in driving distance if there was not the option of bringing my horse with me.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

I have a week 2 week holiday booked for May next year and a weekend booked for June.
