Experience with Horses

My most recent experience, includes working as a groom and rider at Lancaster Sports Horses, I demonstrated my ability to work independently with strong organisational abilities and accountability when being observant to changes in the horses health and condition. This role also required strong interpersonal communication with the yard owner and team members to ensure the efficient running of daily tasks. Additionally to the horses health, monitoring their welfare was a frequent role through out the day.

Daily yard duties included; feeds, water, mucking out, turn in & out, keeping equipment clean and safe, ensuring they wore the correct protective equipment when being exercised and the overall happiness of the horses assuring they were not in a stressful environment. As a confident rider, I was able to exercise a range of horses from 4 year olds to top competition horses on the flat, jumping and hacking. As well as helping back youngsters, including lunging and general handling. I also attended stay-away competitions as both a groom and rider, packing the lorry and preparing horses for travel as well as providing immaculate turnout, including the ability to plait and clip, also competing.

Throughout the time with my own ponies and horses I have competed in both BSJA and BD. Having spent over a year at a local dressage yard where I received regular training I was able to produce my 5 year old mare to Medium level BD. I have also competed up to 1.15 BSJA, riding both my own horses and for other people including Lancaster Sports Horses and Lime Kiln Farm EC, at a series of major shows including championships, Nationals, Houghton International and more.

Key Skills

My skills include good time management and organisation, Confidently work well independently and as part of a team, effective communication with yard owners, fellow team members and clientele. I have a true passion for riding, particularly young horses who require more time and patience. I am also able to turn out to a high standard including clipping and plaiting.
