Experience with Horses
I’ve been into horses since I was a kid, but it’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve found the direction I want to take, and that’s healing horses. For the last two years I have been taking care of horses that their owners have given up on and I have been doing it for free. I moved to Belgium to join my husband and I would like to find a full time job in this industry because it fulfills me and I feel it is what I am meant to do in life. I have done several courses in equine massage and I am currently doing my EEBW certification. Also I had an internship in Dan Kremer’s stabels.
Key Skills
I have experience working with stallions, but I consider my strengths to be patience and understanding of horses. I don’t put up with practices like beating or shouting, putting pressure etc. I like to be out in the fresh air, I also like to muck boxes as it is quite a therapeutic activity. I really like cleaning the horses, I find it to be quality time with them and a time for them to relax and unwind. I also massage horses, so I can give them a relaxing body rub. I do other key things in the stabels such as mucking out, feeding horses, assist vet and farrier etc.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love their presence, their perception of the world, which is completely different from ours. They are very patient and forgiving of a lot of things. They also teach people to relax and slow down.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would love to get better at everything because I know I don’t know anything. 🙂 I’d like to learn how to clip horses, for example, and also improve my lunging skills. I would like to learn to lunge in a way that teaches the horse the correct frame of motion, and I would like to learn to look better and see where his movement is wrong.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m teachable and patient and still malleable, so I’m happy to learn things the way an employer is used to. I am quite flexible and at the same time I am able to do anything for a horse, so I am dedicated to the job. I am reliable and punctual.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

No.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
