Experience with Horses

I have been around horses all my life, being taught to ride before I could walk. I currently work in an office environment and have done for the last 7 years, where I feel I’m definitely in need for a change, and the outdoors is a lot more appealing to me now.

Previously, I have worked on 2 different dressage yards, undergoing all daily duties, including mucking out, turning out, grooming, feeding and water, poo picking, checking on foals and broodmares. Unfortunately, due to life changes, I had to make the decision to get a new job due to the hours of both roles being part time and needing extra money for my own ponies.

Throughout my whole horsey life, I have had experience dealing with many different breeds and ages of horses, mainly colts straight off the moors (fells and cobs) and all my families’ ponies have been backed and brought on by myself, using a calm and soft approach, with some natural horsemanship techniques.

A lot of my time has been spent more with cobs, and natives rather than plaited horses, so my ability to plait up is very limited, although I’m more than happy to learn.

I’m a confident but quiet rider, and have helped a few people with their youngsters, older horses and even ex-racers to school or be re-schooled, to the point where they were ready to find their new homes.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy the daily routine and just spending time with them altogether, whether it’s riding or just having a groom.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my plaiting and clipping abilities to appreciate a better show turnout if needed.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I’m a very hardworking and motivated individual, who has very good knowledge of working and caring for horses, using a calm approach and natural horsemanship techniques, where the horse will always come first.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to be outdoors more and work with horses, enjoying a new venture.

• Do you need accommodation?

Yes

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

2x very bonded, but well behaved ponies, which would be happy out 24-7 with shelter or in at night during the winter months.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No.
