Experience with Horses

I studied Equine Care and Management at Holme Lacy College for a year qualifying with a Level 3. In this time i attended work experience where i did 2 weeks straight work at the colleges riding yard committing to daily duties, this included mucking out, turning out, preparing feeds, field maintenance, tacking up, cleaning tack and general grooming and maintenance of the horses and the yard making sure to have the yard kept to a good condition and standard. I am comfortable and confident around all size horses and i have a good understanding of horses health and identifying any lameness and/or issues.

Key skills

i work well alone and with others,

i have experience clipping and plaiting however it is not off a ‘professional’ level,

my general yard duties are always produced to an acceptable and good standard understanding the welfare and care for the horses,

i have a good attitude and will always get the job done,

if unsure of a job i will seek advice and do so to the best of my ability

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

working with horses brings a sense of reality and gratitude to my life, i love the outdoors and caring for animals.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

i’d like to improve my ability to be confident in a routine. Once i’ve established a routine i feel a lot more confident, comfortable and find myself more able to produce more efficient work.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I have a very good understanding of the needs of horses and can pick up on individual yard habits and routines fairly well to follow their instructions and complete work to their standard also including and possibly sharing my own knowledge in the welfare of horses and completing yard duties.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I want to gain a good relationship with my employer and others that i may be working with or interact with during work. I would like to gain a sense of importance, confidence and feel comfortable at my place of work.

• Do you need accommodation?

No, i have my drivers license however if anywhere outside of Herefordshire 30 Miles + accommodation might be something worth looking at but not massively necessary

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

Yes
