Experience with Horses

I started riding on and off at a young age, plodding around village lanes on an older horse. At 10 I moved to a riding where I started volunteering at weekends and in the half terms. There I learnt the basic horse care; grooming, mucking out, tacking up, cleaning tack, turning horses in/out, leading horses with other riders on and riding. When I left school I did my city and guilds level 2 groom apprenticeship and my level 3 senior groom apprenticeship at a livery yard.

I have worked with hunting horses and helped to get them fit for the hunting season.

I have helped the vet with various tasks such as x-rays, holding horses for injections, lameness trot ups and colic.

I’ve travelled with horses to different venues.

I’ve helped with the farrier, getting the correct horses out for them, communicating any issues or new arrangements for horses, paying them.

I’ve been around ex race horses and have seen some of the process of retraining them.

Ensuring everything is done and checked when the yard owner is out or away.

I have been the nanny horse for other horses and riders who aren’t very confident.

I’m confident on the ground with horses, lunging, walking in hand, or anything else to meet their needs.
