Experience with Horses

As a Groom and Riding Instructor at Woolacombe Riding Stables, I led group rides, instructed riders of all levels, and managed the daily operations of the yard. Additionally, my role as a Travel Groom for a New Zealand showjumper allowed me to refine my expertise in both home and competition environments. I have also taken sole responsibility for privately owned horses, overseeing their training, health management, and care routines.

Further expanding my experience, I worked as a Groom/Rider for Cavalia in Nanjing, China, from August 2019 to May 2020. In this role, I was part of a team dedicated to the care and exercise of over 40 highly trained performance horses, where I played a key role in organizing work schedules and maintaining structured routines to uphold a high standard of equine health and wellness.

Although my recent professional experience has been outside the equine sector, I have remained actively involved with horses, regularly riding and providing care. My formal education in Equine Behaviour and Training, combined with a BSc Honours Degree in Equitation Science from Plymouth University, has given me a strong theoretical foundation to complement my hands-on experience. I am confident that my extensive skill set and unwavering commitment to equine welfare make me a valuable candidate for this role.

Key Skills

I have strong horse management skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. My experience includes providing high-quality care and exercise for a variety of horses, organizing structured routines, and ensuring their overall health and well-being. I am proficient in all aspects of horse husbandry, including clipping, grooming, and general care. Additionally, I have extensive experience in both riding and groundwork, allowing me to handle and train horses effectively. My strong management skills enable me to oversee daily operations efficiently, while my excellent computer skills support administrative tasks such as record-keeping, scheduling, and communication. I am adaptable and capable of working both independently and as part of a team, ensuring smooth and effective workflow in any setting.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I most enjoy the deep connection I am able to form with horses, building trust and understanding through patience and care. I find it incredibly rewarding to provide for their needs, ensuring their well-being while also appreciating the gentleness and kindness they show us in return. Being able to care for them, support their health, and develop a mutual bond is what makes working with horses so fulfilling for me.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to work on my schooling and possibly jumping skills, as I am a little unpractised.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me above other job seekers because of my strong work ethic, extensive experience, and genuine passion for horse care and management. I have a keen eye for detail, ensuring that every horse receives the highest level of care, and I am skilled in all aspects of horse husbandry, including clipping, riding, and groundwork. My ability to work both independently and as part of a team makes me highly adaptable to different environments. Additionally, my strong management and computer skills allow me to efficiently handle administrative tasks, ensuring smooth operations. Most importantly, I bring a deep sense of dedication, treating every horse with the kindness and respect they deserve while maintaining a professional and organized approach to my work.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I am seeking a position where I can take sole charge or have responsibility for a small yard, allowing me to oversee daily operations and ensure the highest standard of horse care. Additionally, I would love the opportunity to develop my riding skills further and work with horses of varying levels, enhancing my experience and expertise in both riding and management.
