Experience with Horses
I have been riding from a young age and always love to be around horses. Professionally I have been training horses (and people) for a few years now. I specialise in horse behaviour; (re-) starting youngsters, trailer loading, behavioural problems both on the ground and under saddle. I have also worked with a foal education team at large studs in New Zealand. I have worked for Grant Bazin for a few years and I feel lucky to have had him as my mentor in effectively training horses using psychology and non-violent training methods.
Key Skills
I’m good at sole charge but I’m also fine in a good team. My key skills are starting youngsters, solving problem behaviour, ground training and teaching/guiding.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I like to make a difference in how a horse is perceived and handled. I’m passionate about understanding their behaviour, but I honestly just love to work with these kind and funny animals on the daily.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’d like to improve my ability to deal with people who do things “the old school way”. I know older people have their life experiences but sometimes I find it hard to find a balance between what I have learned from new research and what older people still like to do because that’s what they did in the old days. I just don’t like to see animals suffer under that.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Even though I’m only 27, I’ve worked in many countries and at many different yards soaking up all the knowledge and experience there is to find. I’m well educated but practical savvy at the same time. I’m skillful, kind and still have the energy to go all in.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I don’t have a specific preference for the job, as long as I can either educate people, do management, train horses or have some kind of challenge that I’d like.
• Do you need accommodation?
I probably do.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
No
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No. I do need to visit home once every while.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
I have a friend’s wedding in November.
