Experience with Horses
I’ve been working as a freelance groom providing holiday cover/yard work for the last 4 years and in this time I’ve worked with a range of horses, from big pets to grand prix dressage horses to carriage horses on the Isle of Sark. I’m mainly only a home groom although have done a few shows and a good few weddings. I would be very willing to improve my skills as a competition groom if required for the job however equally as happy to stay home-based.
I’ve worked as sole groom and as part of a team and I enjoy both.
I am wanting a long term position where I can really settle in and call home. I really see grooming as a ‘lifestyle job’ and I love that. Ideally I am looking for a 5 day week as I’m still wanting to maintain a work/life balance in a long term role!
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love the individual horses, I love getting to know them and having that friendship with them. I very much love the horse over the sport so may not be for you if you feel the other way!
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I love increasing my knowledge so whether that be improving my turnout skills for a competition yard or having case studies for an equine massage course on a smaller private yard, I’ll always be working away on something and I’d love for the role to encourage that. Please teach me everything you know, tell me why you do the things the way you do, there’s always a logic and sometimes it’s things others haven’t ever thought of, I love that.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m dedicated, flexible, and really do want a long term position. I’m still friendly with a lot of the people I’ve worked for in the past, in fact I’m going on holiday this July to see the people I worked for in Sark, and plan to go over to NZ to see my first ever horsey boss when I find the time! Everyone wants their yard to be a friendly place and I very much thrive on that. I go above and beyond for a good boss!
Requirements
• Do you need accommodation?
Yes, I’m looking for sole accommodation as I am wanting to be there for a long time!
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I have a 13.2 pony with EMS, because of this I’m very protective and absolutely want him onsite so I am fully in charge of his care.
I also come with 2 very, very well behaved little bunnies who do live free roam inside, they are litter-trained and don’t chew skirting boards!
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
I currently still have one freelance client, I’d like to help her find a replacement before I leave so I don’t leave her in the lurch.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
July 17th – 21st, seeing the ex-boss
I have completed training with Intelligent Horsemanship, BitFitUK and I’m currently training with SaddleFit4Life as an Equine Ergonomist.
