Experience with Horses

I have been riding horses since the age of five, competing in low-level dressage, equitation, showing, and showjumping up to 1.2m. Over the years, I have owned and cared for a total of eight horses, gaining hands-on experience in their daily care and management.

In addition to my practical experience, I recently graduated with a BSc in Animal Therapy, further deepening my understanding of equine health and rehabilitation. I have worked with a variety of horses, including retraining ex-racehorses from a young age. My skills include mucking out, grooming, turning out, tacking up, lunging, and long-lining. While I have not yet clipped horses, I am eager to lear

Key Skills

My skills include mucking out, grooming, turning out, tacking up, lunging, and long-lining. While I have not yet clipped horses, I am eager to learn

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths:

1. Diverse Animal Care Experience – My background spans equine care, veterinary assistance, and administrative roles in the fitness industry, demonstrating my adaptability and well-rounded skill set.

2. Strong Organizational & Communication Skills – My role as a receptionist has enhanced my ability to coordinate schedules, assist clients, and manage administrative tasks, all of which are valuable in any professional setting.

3. Hands-on Equine Experience – With over 13 years as a competitive rider and experience retraining racehorses, I have developed a deep understanding of equine care, training, and rehabilitation.

4. Leadership & Management Skills – As a Stable Manager, I have overseen training programs, conducted health checks, and maintained high standards in stable management, further strengthening my leadership abilities.

5. Animal Therapy Knowledge – My BSc in Animal Therapy provides a strong scientific foundation to complement my hands-on experience, making me well-equipped to work in rehabilitation and holistic animal care.

6. Ability to Work with Different Animal Species – My experience in a veterinary clinic exposed me to a variety of animals, improving my handling skills and deepening my understanding of animal behavior.

7. Eagerness to Learn – I recognize areas for growth, such as clipping horses, and I am always open to developing new skills to enhance my expertise.

Areas for Growth:

1. Limited Experience with Clipping – While I have strong general equine care skills, I have not yet clipped horses. However, I am eager to learn and gain hands-on experience in this area.

2. Limited Independent Decision-Making Experience – My roles have emphasized teamwork, but I would like to develop my ability to make independent decisions and handle complex situations with greater autonomy.

3. Potential Gap in Advanced Veterinary Procedures – While I have hands-on experience in a clinic, I recognize that additional certifications in physiotherapy or veterinary assistance could enhance my expertise, especially if I pursue a more medical or rehabilitation-focused career.

4. Balancing Administrative and Hands-on Work – My receptionist role has strengthened my organizational skills, but I want to ensure that I maintain a balance between administrative tasks and hands-on animal care, particularly in animal therapy.

Overall, my strengths far outweigh my areas for growth. With continued experience, learning, and specialization, I am confident in my ability to build a strong and successful career in animal care and rehabilitation.
