Experience with Horses

Having spent most of my childhood around horses it was only natural for me to pursue a career in horsemanship.  I tried my hand at most disciplines but found a passion in racing, especially NH, and have spent over 18 years working with NH and flat horses both in the UK and France, where I subsequently, learned to speak French.  I took great pride in taking my horses to the races and turning them out, often winning the ‘best turned out’ prize, and watching them perform to their best knowing that I had a significant influence in producing them alongside my peers and colleagues.   Prior to this I qualified as an instructor and spent many years teaching children and adults, after which I gained experience in hunting and showing yards, travelling to competitions across the UK.

The rest of my career has been incredibly varied and exciting, including grooming for the Great Britain Horseball teams in Portugal 2008 coming home with a silver medal, and even working on a celebrity reality show for sports relief called Only fools on Horses. I also spent time working as an executive assistant during a period of injury which led me to be non-weight bearing and unable to work in a physical environment.

I have always been interested in horse management and take great pride in being able to manage their ailments either on my own or alongside professional vets.  I have excellent stable management skills, capable of taking charge when required and happy to get stuck in when the pressure is on. I am a highly motivated and experienced team player and take pride in being able to adapt to new challenges and new environments. However, after spending most of my adult life working hands on in the equine industry, I embarked on a new chapter working as a residential support worker for children. This role has been one of the most challenging, as the children I work with have emotional and behavioural difficulties. Being able to support these children and help them to overcome their difficulties, while making a caring and loving home environment for them has given me a greater depth of gratitude and pride in what I do. Alongside this role, I also have a freelance contract with a Graphic design company where I provide online support to the CEO, Directors and assist with account management.
