Experience with Horses
I first began my passion of riding horses at the age of 7, taking horses on small hacks and learning to ride. Sadly, I had a long break and decided to come back to the horse world last year. I have been helping my friend and riding when I can throughout the year and then I lived on a horse ranch in Portugal for two months. Here I learned how to look after horses day-to-day, general maintenance around the yard, grooming, riding, turning horses in and out, mucking out and we were also helping to build a working equitation. Since coming home I have found work on a live out farm, housing 28 horses, most of which are rescues. Learning to teach them manners and dealing with young/traumatized horses and having the patience to help train them to get used to a saddle again. I mostly deal with feeding their supplements everyday and checking their general well-being. This yard strongly believes in natural horsemanship so I have also been learning to connect with the horses on a deeper level for better a better outcome.
Key Skills
I am perfectly comfortable working alone or working in a team environment as I am used to different situations whilst travelling and working abroad. I am used to multitasking, hard work and have impeccable time keeping skills. On a daily basis I muck out, feed supplements, turn in/out difficult horses and groom. I also help with small childrens lessons. I worked on a farm with only stallions so I’m used to dealing with different breeds.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I love being outdoors and surrounded by animals, they bring out the best in me and I believe it is one of the most rewarding jobs getting a horse to trust you. I enjoy learning new skills and techniques and am always keen to improve my riding. I think you should consider me for the job as I am a quick and keen learner, have a can do attitude, and am a hard worker. I don’t finish until the job is complete to a high standard no matter what it is, and I feel such compassion for horses and have a lot of patience for young/nervous horses.
Requirements
Gaining more experience on the job is the aim for me, improving my riding is always a bonus and gaining qualifications. Depending on where the role is I would need accommodation.
